The Cultural Corner series highlights diverse perspectives on career and life featuring members of our SOLV Energy team. This series is an initiative of SOLV Energy's employee-led DEI council, Resolve. Through these features, our goal is to build awareness and encourage appreciation for our variant cultural backgrounds in our organization and the solar industry.

To kick off Diversity Month, get to know Bahaa Hoda, a Senior Project Engineer for SOLV Energy.

Tell us about yourself. Who are you? Where did you grow up? How do you identify?

My name is Bahaa Hoda. I was born and raised in Alexandria, Egypt until I was 14 years old. However, due to the Egyptian revolution in 2013, my family and I relocated to Connecticut, USA, where I've resided since.

What do you value most?

Family and friends are the cornerstones of my life. As an immigrant who moved to the United States with only my mother and brother, my friends have become as close as a family to me. Their support and companionship have been invaluable throughout my journey.

What were you told as a child that you still believe today?

"You can achieve anything in life as long as you put in the effort." This mantra has been my guiding light, fueling my determination to pursue my goals relentlessly, especially when obstacles arise.

How does your cultural heritage influence who you are?

My cultural heritage has a strong impact on me. It instills values of family and tradition, shaping my identity and how I connect with others. It influences my communication style and worldview, making me adaptable in the face of challenges.

What family traditions or superstitions do you have?

A family tradition we have is fasting during Ramadan. This sacred time brings my family together in reflection, prayer, and celebration. It is usually my favorite time of the year!

What cultural similarities and differences do you have with your closest co-workers?

Some cultural similarities I have with my closest co-workers are speaking the same language (Arabic) and enjoying the same African food. This is one of the primary reasons I love working at SOLV Energy. Each team boasts diversity, creating an environment where you can learn and appreciate different cultures.

Please share something that you’d like everyone at SOLV to know about your cultural heritage.

Embracing my cultural roots has taught me valuable lessons in empathy, respect, and understanding, which I bring to every interaction and project at SOLV Energy!
